Standard product

The mortise sliding door lock with GSV No. 3801 SZ is a purpose-engineered locking solution developed specifically for use in sliding door systems. Unlike conventional swing or pivot door locks, this product addresses the distinct kinematic and structural requirements inherent to sliding door configurations, where force directions, door travel, and fitting geometry differ fundamentally from those of hinged door applications. Suitable installation environments include interior and exterior sliding doors in residential, commercial, and light industrial settings, wherever consistent, mechanically reliable locking performance is required over extended service periods.
The lock body and all load-bearing mechanical components are manufactured from stainless steel grade 304 or similar, an austenitic chromium-nickel alloy recognized for its robust resistance to corrosion, moisture, and common chemical exposure in both indoor and protected outdoor environments. Compared to standard steel or brass, grade 304 stainless steel delivers a significantly extended service life under varying climatic conditions without reliance on supplementary surface coatings that may degrade over time. The inherently smooth, low-maintenance surface of the stainless steel finish also satisfies the elevated hygiene requirements encountered in wet rooms, medical facilities, commercial kitchens, and food processing environments, broadening the practical application range of this lock considerably.
This lock is designed to accept a standard profile cylinder and is supplied without one, affording the installer complete freedom to select a compatible cylinder appropriate to the specific security level and keying requirements of the installation. The scope of delivery includes a coordinated strike plate, precision-matched to the latch geometry of the lock body to ensure clean, flush latch engagement without additional modification or site adjustment. The strike plate maintains the latch securely in the closed position and withstands the lateral loading characteristic of sliding door operation, providing consistent holding force throughout the product’s service life.
A technically significant design feature of this lock is the field-adjustable spring tension of the latch mechanism. Depending on the fitting type selected by the installer, the spring force can be configured to either a strong or light setting. A strong spring tension is recommended for heavier sliding door panels or systems requiring a more positive latch return, while a light spring setting improves ease of operation for lightweight doors or installations subject to accessibility requirements. This adjustability substantially increases the versatility of the lock across a wide range of door weights, sliding system types, and end-user needs, reducing the requirement for application-specific variants.
The lock is supplied without surface fittings, enabling the user to freely select handles, knobs, or lever sets compatible with the existing door hardware and interior design scheme. When using the optionally recommended handle models 2210, 6610, or 4410 in conjunction with this lock, vertical mounting orientation is mandatory to ensure correct mechanical engagement and sustained operational integrity of the complete assembly. This installation requirement is determined by the internal geometry of the lock mechanism and must be observed during planning and fitting to guarantee long-term, fault-free performance.

The hand of door for mortise locks is defined as:
if the door is closed and the hinges are visible on the right/left, then the door is right/left hand. The door is therefore hinged on the right/left and according by definition of DIN right/left.
Or: if you grasp the handle with your right hand and latch and deadbolt show to the left, then it is right hand. If you grasp the handle with your left hand latch and deadbolt show to the right, it is a left hand.
Rim locks
The hand of door for rim locks is defined as:
if the door is closed and the hinges are visible on the right/left, then the door is right /left hand. The door is therefore hinged on the right/left and according to the definition DIN “right/left".
In addition to the designation “left” and “right”, it is to be indicated whether the locks are intended for inward or outward opening doors.
Sliding door mortises
The hand of door for sliding door mortises is the same for right and left. Sliding rim door locks different for left and right doors.
When ordering, always indicate “left” or “right”.
| Latch
The lock latch keeps the door shut. In order to open the door, it must be retracted. |

| Deadbolt
The deadbolt regulates the access rights through the turning motion of the cylinder by key. The deadbolt is being driven out or retracted through the turning motion. |

The faceplate is the visible part of the lock case. The faceplate, the latch and the deadbolt are the only visible parts of a mortise. |

Handle hub
The handle hub takes the square spindle of the handle in order to retract the latch inside the lock through the turning motion of the same. This process allows the opening of the door. The shipbuilding norm specifies a 9mm square with a 2° incline. Schwepper supplies also with 8mm square, special contour or 0° incline on request. |

WC-/privacy hub
The WC hub takes the square spindle of the olive or thumb turn, that retracts or drives out the deadbolt from the inside - analogue to the turning motion of the cylinder. The shipbuilding norm specifies a 7mm square. Schwepper supplies also with 8mm square on request. |

| Backset
The backset is the distance from the front edge of the faceplate to the center of the cylinder hole respectively handle hub square. The rear backset behind the center line remains always 27mm. |

| Distancing
The distancing is the dimension from the center of the handel hub and the center of the hole for profile cylinder / privacy (WC) / key. The industry standard in shipbuilding is 75mm. |

| Latch protrusion
The latch protrudes according to the industrial DIN standard in shibuilding 14mm. Other technical standards for latch protrusion are: 16 mm according to DOT (Department of Transportation) 19 mm according to USCG (US Coast Guard) |
